Safeguarding

Safeguarding our students is at the heart of our school and includes:

  • Ensuring children grow up with the provision of safe and effective care.
  • Preventing harm to children’s health and development.
  • Protecting children from abuse and maltreatment.
  • Taking action to enable all children to have the best outcomes.

Child protection is a priority for the UAE and a Child’s Right Law was implemented in June 2016. Child protection in the UAE includes: physical abuse, emotional abuse, sexual abuse, neglect, repeated maltreatment, grooming and sexual exploitation, human trafficking and exploitation by groups that teach fanaticism or hatred. UAE law requires all schools to pass on information which gives rise to a concern about a child’s welfare.

Safer Recruitment

All our staff are carefully employed with our children’s safety at heart. All staff submit an appropriate police check, and if recruited from the UK, submit an up-to-date Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) record. Our staff involved in the recruitment process have completed Safer Recruitment training and will ask specific questions related to child protection during the interview. Two references are also requested, one of which is from the previous employer. At RDS, we also provide mandatory safeguarding training for all our staff, including our support staff (which might be translated to ensure full understanding). Finally, we have a whistle blowing policy which makes it mandatory to report any concern regarding a staff member to our Designated Safeguarding Team.

Our Designated Safeguarding Team

At RDS our designated Safeguarding leads are, Mrs Jan Steel, Principal/CEO, Mrs Jenny Evans, Deputy Principal and Mrs Michaela Bullock, Assistant Principal Inclusion. If you have any concerns, please contact us on 04 288 6499. Our Safeguarding policy can also be found in the 'School Policies' section.
